About

I love all kinds of movies but have had an especially enduring love affair with crime stories-particularly heist films. I’ve been trying to watch as many as I can find and Clockwork Capers is a project born out of that effort. I wanted to catalog my own thoughts and reviews, but I hope it can be a resource for others looking to discover more heist flicks. I’m not sure how important rating these movies is going to be, but I thought the shorthand might be useful and maybe we’ll do some ranked lists further down the line. Here’s roughly how my 5 star scheme shakes out:

Five Stars – Absolute classic and a pinnacle of the genre. An excellent film regardless of your personal appreciation for heist movies. Potentially a personal favorite that I watch time and time again.

Four Stars – Great film and probably still something anyone can enjoy even if they aren’t particular fans of crime/heist films. Required viewing for fans of the genre.

Three Stars – Good film and worth a watch for fans of the genre. Possibly a mediocre film that has some especially good aspects such as performance, music, or style.

Two Stars – Mediocre film. Probably an entertaining enough diversion for devotees but results in an unsatisfying or lackluster experience.

One Star – Bad. Absolute stinker not worth anyone’s time.

I initially was going to eschew half stars in my ratings, but I found it too difficult. I don’t have the spine for it!

As an aside, I will definitely be making comments on the format I view each film in, but that will not necessarily reflect in the star rating. A less than stellar blu ray or dvd presentation will not tank the rating on a great film or vice versa and I’ll try to keep my recommendations on whether to see a film separate from my encouragement to purchase a specific edition.
